In the Land of Blood and Honey is set against the backdrop of the Bosnian war in the 1990s. It tells the story of Danijel, a soldier on the Serbian side who falls in love with the Bosnian Ajla.

As with any movies based on real life history, events and people, this movie is not without controversy. Director Angelina Jolie has received death threats over the movie. The movie is variously charged with being glib in its stereotypes of of the Serbs as racists, for blatantly imposing a message with the movie, a glamourised UN-presentation etc. There are good reviews too. Some critics applaud her for bringing her celebrity status to bear on such atrocities, and for being brutally honest.

The movie opens in March in Singapore. Trailers here. More on the movie here.
